A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is currently available in the Laboratory of ERIN E. KERSHAW, M.D. in the Department of Medicine / Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge NIH-funded research investigating obesity, diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome. The work primarily uses cells and mice as models systems but also includes translational work in humans.

The candidate must 1) hold a PhD and/or MD or equivalent in the Health/Life Sciences and 2) be a US citizen, permanent US resident, or possess a US working permit.

Prior experience with the following is preferred: cell biology / cell signaling (including basic mammalian cell culture, especially culture of adipocytes and/or myocytes), biochemistry (especially lipid biochemistry), molecular biology (DNA/RNA/protein analysis by PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, Southern/Northern/Western blotting; basic cloning, etc.), immunohistochemistry, and animal genetics/physiology (including use of genetically-engineered mouse models, serum hormone analysis, etc.). A willingness to work with animals is an absolute prerequisite for this position.

In addition, the candidate should 1) be fluent in written and spoken English, 2) be able to work both independently as a member of a research team, 3) be hard-working, motivated, and eager to learn, and 4) have an interest in the role of obesity in disease.
